Ladies Lose At Millsaps On Friday Night
The Centenary women's basketball lost to the Millsaps College Majors by a score of 78-53 on Friday night in a non-conference game inside the Hangar Dome.
Jackson, Miss. - The Centenary women's basketball lost to the Millsaps College Majors by a score of 78-53 on Friday night in a non-conference game inside the Hangar Dome.
The Ladies (1-3) fell behind 22-10 after the first quarter and trailed the Majors (3-0) by a score of 50-25 at halftime. Millsaps edged Centenary 16-14 in the third quarter and the Ladies outscored the Majors 14-12 in the final period.
Senior F Layla Powell (Fort Worth, Texas) was the lone Centenary player to reach double figures as she finished with 13 points. Tia Anderson led all scorers with 22 points and was one of three Millsaps players to score in double figures as she was joined by Lexus Keyes (18) and Garin Freeman (12).
Sophomore G Julissa Cabrera (Denham Springs, La.) scored nine and freshman G Nakaylyn Wells (Nacogdoches, Texas) and senior F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) each had eight. Sophomore G Nevaeh Rivera (Rosepine, La.) scored three and four players scored two points each - senior G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.), freshman F Emily Cortez (Thibodaux, La.), junior F Natalya Senat (Killeen, Texas), and sophomore G Madison Fontenot (Mamou, La.).
The Ladies finished 17-48 from the floor for 35.4 %, 7-21 from beyond the arc for 33.3 % and 12-15 from the free throw line for 80 %. The Majors shot the ball well and finished 50 % (25-50) from the floor, 11-21 (52.4 %) from 3-point range, and were 17-30 from the FT line for 56.7 %). The Majors outrebounded the Ladies 33-26 and edged them in the battle inside, finishing with 24 points in the paint to 20 for the Ladies.
Centenary turned the ball over 24 times which led to 30 points for Millsaps and the Majors gave it away 19 times which led to 12 points for the Ladies. The Majors edged the Ladies in second-chance points (7-6), scored seven fast break points to Centenary's four, and Centenary finished with a 25-19 advantage in bench points.
The Ladies return to action on Tuesday with another non-conference contest at home against Arlington Baptist University set for 6 PM in the Gold Dome.
