The Ladies (1-4) lost 68-60 to the Arlington Baptist University Patriots in a non-conference contest last Tuesday at home in their most recent action. The Wildcats (4-2) beat Tougaloo College 85-50 at home on Saturday and are 2-2 on their home court this season while the Ladies are 1-1 on the road. The Ladies and Wildcats are meeting for the first time since Nov. 11, 2023 when Wiley recorded a 69-35 win at home.
Centenary is averaging 57.0 PPG as a team and shooting 35.0 % from the floor, 30.1 % from 3-point range, and 75.9 % from the free-throw line. The Ladies are averaging 33.6 rebounds per game and 12.6 assists/game. Centenary ranks second in the conference in FT %, third in blocked shots (3.4/game), fourth in steals (9.8), and sixth in assists (12.6). The Ladies are also tied for 45th nationally in FT %.
Freshman G Nakaylyn Wells (Nacogdoches, Texas) is the Ladies' leading scorer this season (13.4 PPG) followed by senior F Layla Powell (Fort Worth, Texas) at 9.2 PPG. Senior F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) is the Ladies' leading rebounder (6.4/game) and is third on the team in scoring (7.2 PPG). Wells is second on the team in rebounding (5.4) and is the leader in assists (3.8) and fifth in steals (1.2).
Wells scored a career-high 21 points to lead all scorers against Arlington Baptist on Tuesday as she played all 40 minutes and finished 9-17 from the floor and 3-3 at the FT line with six rebounds, four assists and a steal. She has now scored in double figures in four of her five games this season and is shooting 41.9 % from the floor.
She is fourth in the conference in assists and assist to turnover ratio (1.6), eighth in scoring, 10th in minutes played, 13th in defensive rebounds (4.6/game), and 15th in 3-point FG made (1.4/game). Powell is tied for sixth in the conference in FT % (84.6) to lead the team, is seventh in 3-point FG made (2.2/game), is ninth in minutes played (31.8/game) and is tied for 25th in the league in scoring. Stokes is tied for fifth in the conference in blocked shots (1.0/game), 11th in defensive rebounding, and 12th in the conference in overall rebounding.
Senior G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) is fourth on the team in scoring (6.8), sophomore G Julissa Cabrera (Denham Springs, La.) is fifth (5.8) and sophomore G Alexis Duhon (Westlake, La.) is sixth (5.3). Sophomore G Nevaeh Rivera (Rosepine, La.) is the team leader in steals per game (2.2), second in assists/game (3.2) and averages 3.4 PPG and 2.6 rebounds/game. Rivera is sixth in the conference in assist to turnover ratio (1.3), tied for eighth in the conference in assists and ranks ninth in steals.
Cabrera is tied for seventh in 3-point FG % (.500) and she has made 7 of 14 beyond the arc this season and he is tied with Wells for 15th in the league in 3-point FG made (1.4/game). Freshman F Emily Cortez (Thibodaux, La.) is third in the conference in blocked shots/game (1.6).
Following Tuesday's meeting with Wiley, the Ladies will open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at LeTourneau University on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 PM in Longview, Texas.
