The Ladies (1-5) lost 67-59 at Wiley University last Tuesday in Marshall, Texas while the YellowJackets (1-4) fell 76-59 to Rhodes College last Tuesday on the road. Both teams enter Tuesday's game aiming to snap a three-game losing streak.
Centenary is 1-2 on the road this season and LeTourneau is 1-0 at home. The Ladies defeated the YellowJackets 81-74 last season in Longview. LeTourneau was picked to finish 10th in the preseason poll this season while Centenary was predicted to finish 12th.
Centenary is averaging 57.3 PPG as a team and shooting 34.2 % from the floor, 28.6 % from 3-point range, and 74.0 % from the free-throw line. The Ladies are averaging 35.5 rebounds per game and 12.5 assists/game. Centenary leads the conference in FT %, is third in steals, tied for third in blocked shots (3.4/game), and seventh in assists (12.6). The Ladies are also fifth in FG % defense and sixth in both scoring defense and 3-point FG % defense. The Ladies are 49th nationally in FT %.
Freshman G Nakaylyn Wells (Nacogdoches, Texas) is the Ladies' leading scorer this season (13.3 PPG) and ranks seventh in the conference. Senior F Layla Powell (Fort Worth, Texas) is next at 8.3 PPG. Senior G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) and senior F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) are both averaging 7.5 PPG and Stokes is the Ladies' leading rebounder (6.2/game) and ranks 13th in the conference.
LeTourneau has three players averaging double figures in scoring – Mariana Espinosa (13.0 PPG), Kylie Weeks (12.0 PPG) and Makenzie Covey (10.0 PPG) as all three rank in the top 20 in the conference. Covey is LETU's leading rebounder (6.3/game) to rank 12th in the league.
Sophomore G Nevaeh Rivera (Rosepine, La.) is the team leader in steals per game (2.3) which ranks seventh in the conference and is second on the team in assists/game (3.0) which is tied for ninth in the league. She also averages 4.3 PPG and 2.8 rebounds/game and is sixth in the conference in assist to turnover ratio (1.3).
Freshman F Emily Cortez (Thibodaux, La.) is third in the conference in blocked shots/game (1.3) and sophomore G Julissa Cabrera (Denham Springs, La.) is eighth in 3-point FG % (.438) and she has made 7 of 16 beyond the arc this season
Wells is off to an impressive start for the Ladies as she has reached double figures five times in six games and is also second on the team in rebounding (5.7/game) and her 3.8 assists/game rank fourth in the league while she is fifth in the conference in assist to turnover ratio (1.4). Wells also ranks ninth in the league in minutes played as she is averaging 32.0 minutes/game.
Powell is tied for fourth in the league in FT % (80.0) and tied for sixth in 3-point FG made (2.0/game). Stokes is tied for seventh in the conference in blocked shots (0.8/game) and tied for 11th in defensive rebounding.
Centenary will play two non-conference contests this month – Dec. 9 at East Texas Baptist University and at Howard Payne University on Dec. 12 before returning to SCAC play with a rematch versus LeTourneau at home on Friday, Jan. 2.
