The Ladies will wrap up the weekend on Saturday versus the University of Dallas at 6 PM.
The Ladies (3-13, 2-5 SCAC) enter Friday's game against the 'Roos (9-8, 6-2 SCAC) fresh off a thrilling home win last Friday over the Concordia University Tornados by a score of 63-62 while the 'Roos defeated the University of the Ozarks at home last Thursday, 63-50.
Friday marks the second meeting between the teams this season after Austin College claimed a 78-54 win on Jan. 16 in Sherman, Texas, a victory that started the 'Roos' current four-game winning streak. The Ladies' win last Friday was their first since beating LeTourneau University on Dec. 2.
Ladies' Season Individual Statistical Leaders:
Scoring: Senior G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) – 9.4 PPG
Rebounding: Senior F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) – 6.2 RPG
Assists: Sophomore G Julissa Cabrera (Denham Springs, La.) – 1.6/game
Blocks: Stokes – 0.9/game
Steals: Cabrera – 1.6/game
The Ladies average 50.4 PPG, shoot 32.6 % from the floor, 26.9 % from 3-point range, and 65.3 % from the free-throw line while averaging 34.4 rebounds/game, 9.2 assists/game, 11.4 steals/game, and 2.6 blocks/game.
Barrow led all scorers with a season-high 20 points in the Concordia win as she played 34 minutes and finished 8-10 from the floor, 2-2 from beyond the arc, and 2-2 at the FT line. She added three assists, three rebounds, and one assist and scored in double figures for the eighth time this season and for the fifth time in seven games.
Junior F Natalya Senat (Killeen, Texas) had the best game of her career with an impressive double-double that featured career highs in both points (10) and rebounds (14). She played 26 minutes and finished 4-8 from the floor and 2-2 at the FT line with two steals and one assist. Cabrera matched her season high with 10 points as she was 3-4 at the FT line in 28 minutes with a trey, two assists, and two steals.
Senior G Savannah Stowers (Waller, Texas) scored eight in 25 minutes off the bench with three rebounds, two steals, and an assist. Senior F Layla Powell (Fort Worth, Texas) also scored eight points as she went 2-5 from the floor, 2-4 from beyond the arc, and 2-4 at the FT line in 24 minutes with two rebounds.
Stokes scored five points and grabbed six rebounds in 27 minutes with three assists and was 3-4 at the FT line and freshman F Emily Cortez (Thibodaux, La.) played seven minutes and had two points. Sophomore G Madison Fontenot (Mamou, La.) came off the bench and played a very important 17 minutes and finished with five rebounds, an assist, and a steal.
Notables:
Stokes and Cortez are both ranked in the top 10 in the conference in blocked shots, Barrow ranks ninth in minutes played, Stokes is 14th in rebounding, Cabrera is 15th in steals, and Powell is 14th in 3-PT FG made.
A Glance at the'Roos:
Austin College's top three scorers are junior G Lexi Martin (10.5 PPG), junior G Avory Miller (9.0 PPG), and senior F Trinity Williams (8.4 PPG). Miller is Austin College's top rebounder (6.2/game).
Olivia Hunt is the head coach of the 'Roos and is in her first season.
Austin College leads the conference in FG % defense (56.2 %)
Centenary was picked to finish 12th in the conference this season in the SCAC preseason poll while Austin College was predicted to finish sixth. The top six teams in the conference (top three in each division) will qualify for the SCAC Women's Basketball Tournament, which will be held February 27 through March 1 and hosted by Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. The winner of that event will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The 'Roos are currently leading the SCAC's Blue Division while the Ladies are in a tie for third.
